Physicians may focus their practice on certain disease categories, types of patients, and methods of treatment—known as specialities—or they may assume responsibility for the provision of continuing and comprehensive medical care to individuals, families, and communities—known as general practice. Both the role of the physician and the meaning of the word itself vary around the world. Degrees and other qualifications vary widely, but there are some common elements, such as
medical ethics requiring that physicians show consideration, compassion, and benevolence for their patients.

The United States is a
developed country and has the world’s largest national economy. The economy is fueled by an abundance of  natural resources and high worker productivity. While the  U.S. economy is considered post-industrial, it continues to be one of the world’s largest manufacturers. The country accounts for 37% of  global military spending, being the world’s foremost economic and  military power, a prominent political and cultural force, and a leader in scientific research and technological innovations.
